ROLE IN COMMUNITY
As a local business we take an active role in the community and as well as supporting local schools funding and various charities and fund raising events we sponsor:
- Junior Football Teams
- A local league senior football club
- A local senior cricket club
- A local karate club
We also (sometimes against our better judgement!) have an executive box at St James’ Park, some might consider this worthy of the term a charitable donation!
All employees are locally based and we have an active apprentiship programme which promotes the sustainable employment of young local school leavers.
During the development of our supply chain we placed an emphasis on using the services of local suppliers, manufactures and sub contractors whenever possible in order the local community could benefit directly from our activities.
Please visit the ‘Health & Safety’ and ‘Environment’ sections for our approach to these two important corporate and social responsibility elements.
HEALTH & SAFETY
At Leybourne Urwin Limited we recognise that care of our employees and the environment are central to our business, and we are dedicated to operating in a manner that achieves these goals. The achievement of certification to BS OHSAS 18001:2007 in 2010, the most widely recognised health and safety management standard in the world, enhances our company’s already impressive health and safety record. Our Management System identifies significant health and safety aspects and the associated impacts of our operations. We strive to reduce the health and safety impacts of these operations, our products, and services using appropriate solutions and technologies. These will be managed at all times in a way that minimises risk to all employees, visitors and contractors both at our offices and on site. Training and continual risk assessment will ensure that this is undertaken in a controlled manner.
ENVIRONMENT
At Leybourne Urwin Limited, we realize we are part of a larger global community and that our decisions and policies have lasting effects on many things beyond the people and companies directly involved. We are committed to decreasing our impact on the environment by adopting policies which comply with existing standards and programs. In order to help us to achieve this we have implemented an Environmental Management System for which we achieved certification to ISO14001:2004 in 2010.
We have been involved in a number of BREEAM 'Excellent' Projects and continue to advocate pioneering new technologies whenever possible.
