COMPANY HISTORY
Leybourne Urwin Ltd was founded in 1882 by, Mr Leybourne Urwin at Shotley Bridge, Consett. In 1910 a branch was opened at Stanley complete with showroom. It became a limited company in 1935.
The company has remained in the Family since 1882 and is now run by the forth generation, the founder’s great grandsons, Chris Urwin and Mark Urwin.
Originally the company traded as plumbers, heating engineers, gas fitters and electricians and continues to specialise in all aspects of building services engineering.
In 1978 the company built a purpose made factory/stores/office at Stanley with floor area of 8000 square feet built on a one acre site. These premises gave the company a modern environment and room for expansion. They were opened in January 1979 and have been modernised and expanded throughout the years.
The company continues to trade successfully from these premises today with facilities a far cry from those available to its founder some 130 years ago.

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
As with any employer or business our company is only as good as the people it employs. All our staff are directly employed and have been with us for a minimum of 5 years and in some cases as long as 25 years.
All employees hold current CSCS Registrations and with the exception of our apprentices are fully time served with various added training modules such as Gas Safe, MEWPS, Mobile Towers, Abrasive Wheels, Asbestos Awareness, Appointed Persons, Unvented Hot Water, Welding, Friatherm, Confined Spaces, Emergency First Aid, Manual Handling, Electro Fusion and Site Supervisor Safety.
A training matrix exists as part of our Lloyds Certified ISO9001 (Quality Assurance) and OHSAS18001 (health & Safety) standards which ensures all staff are properly trained for their duties.

Leybourne Urwin Ltd is one of only a very few select local building services contractors who hold all three Lloyds Certifications to ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System), which demonstrates our commitment to client satisfaction and continuous improvement in key areas such as quality, health & safety and the environment.
We are also members of the H.V.C.A. - Registration Number: F111000/HV000660 (Heating Ventilation Contractors Association), CHAS - Registration Number: 6874 (The Contractors Health & Safety), Gas Safe - Registration Number: 3495, JIB - Registration Number: L28018 and Construction Line - Registration Number: 6874
